Storyteller helps celebrate Hispanic Heritage

Porter Ridge Elementary School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with the “Storyteller With An Accent” – Irania Macias Patterson, a published children’s author of bi-lingual books and CDs.
Patterson, a storyteller from the Charlotte Public Library, spent the day at Porter Ridge Elementary performing traditional Hispanic folktales and dances from different countries for our students.
Patterson used a variety of props and instruments, such as castanets and a cuatro, a stringed instrument from Venezuela. The students also enjoyed their participation in the songs and dances.
Hispanic Heritage Month was also celebrated with a variety of books and materials and a trivia contest with facts about different famous Hispanic individuals as well as facts about countries.
