FCCLA Donates Over $800 To The March of Dimes

Principal Jan Hollis, FCCLA Advisers Tonie Allen and Karen Rowe, FCCLA President Travis Carpenter, and Director of Career and Technical Education Lorraine Collins present March of Dimes representative Karen Hughett with a giant check totaling $839.65.

Parkwood High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) club has been a long time supporter of the March of Dimes in its campaign to help moms have full-term, healthy pregnancies.  This year was no different as they presented March of Dimes representative, Karen Hughett, with a check for $839.65.

For Valentine’s Day they raised money by selling Orange Crush drinks and delivering them with a note to students. The proceeds of this fundraiser were used to support their annual March of Dimes drive. Each Spring the club challenges all third period classes to support the March of Dimes and provides a pizza lunch to the third period class that contributes the most money during a two week period.  This year Parkwood raised more money than usual. Charlee Williams' third period Health Team Relations class alone raised over $300.  FCCLA club adviser Karen Rowe commented, "As Family and Consumer Science teachers, it gives us great pleasure to help support an organization that provides research into birth defects and premature births. It relates to families and our curriculum."
