Third Graders take on Camp Thunderbird Challenges
Recently, the Stallings Elementary 3rd graders took a 3 day trip to the YMCA Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie. While at camp the students participated in a variety of activities that are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The activities included "soil study", where the students studied the composition of the North Carolina soil, "astronomy" where the students studied the stars, constellations, and the solar system. The students were taught how to navigate using a compass, and completed a pioneer study where the children learned how the early settlers lived and traveled. The students also had an opportunity to face their fears while zip-lining and canoeing.
