BOB Book Fair For Fifth Grade

Mrs. Minsker speaks to our fifth graders.

For the past four years, Antioch has had a Middle School Battle of the Books (BOB) Book Fair for our rising 6th graders.  Diane Minsker, the WMS media specialist, visits our school to talk about the BOB program at the middle school.  The fifth graders then get the chance to purchase the books during the book fair.  The BOB Book Fair runs from May 27th-June 3rd.  The books are leveled this year by their Fountas & Pinnell Reading Level.  Sixth grade teachers suggest reading at the R, S, and T reading levels.  Every middle grade student at WMS is expected to read two books from the summer reading list.  All students will take graded Accelerated Reader tests during the first six weeks of middle school this fall.   Mrs. Minsker also stated that the WMS media center will be open in the summer on Mondays from 11:00-1:00 (except July 4th) for students to check out two books @ a time.

Mrs. Minsker brought along five Antioch alumni to talk about the books on the BOB list and about their experiences with being a member of the BOB team this year.  The students were Jeremy Cummings, Luke Baker, Thomas McCorkle, Gillian Totaro, and Mattie Rose.  Mrs. Minsker talked about the various BOB activities they have at the middle school, which starts with a poster contest.  She mentioned that the BOB program is bigger than just the 21 member team that competes with the county.  Her program is contagious around the school!   Mrs. Minsker said that this fifth grade audience was the most attentive she has had since the inception of the BOB Book Fairs at Antioch!
