Union Elementary poster goes into space with NASA
Union Elementary students and staff have a special interest in the Space Shuttle Endeavour’s recent launch and are anxiously awaiting its safe arrival home.
In May, some Union Elementary students and school staff signed a large poster in honor of Space Day. That poster was then sent to NASA, bound for inclusion in the launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour and its 15-day space mission.
The Endeavour launched about 8 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, and after its 15 days in space, will return to Earth with that poster.
“If you look up into the sky and see a little star that is moving very slowly across the sky, that could be the space shuttle carrying our signatures,” said Susie Jones, media coordinator at Union Elementary School.
The landing is scheduled for two days after Thanksgiving. A few weeks later, Union Elementary will receive the poster back, along with a certificate from NASA and a photo of the astronaut crew that took the poster into space.
