Jennifer Dobbins, Harris Teeter's Teacher of Excellence

Mrs. Jennifer Dobbins, left, and Mrs. Rita Webb, Principal, are presented the check from Harris Teeter.

Mrs. Jennifer Dobbins received the Harris Teeter Together in Education Teachers of Excellence Award for May 2011. A "Teacher of Excellence" is one that is exceptionally dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled in the teaching field.

Mrs. Dobbins taught Kindergarten in California where it took one child to open her eyes and heart to a special group of children. She then opted to leave the "mainstream" and teach Special Education for a few years in Michigan. She strives to teach that "every child is an individual who has a potential to learn, grow and achieve successes to the best of their ability." Her goal is to see that all children are treated equally with the love and respect they deserve.

Mrs. Dobbins came to Western Union five years ago as a Kindergarten teacher. She is currently teaching 1st Grade. Her commitment continues outside of school as she stays active within the community. Mrs. Dobbins’ day does not end when the “bell rings”. She is a Mom of two children that keep her very busy between school, church, and sports. It’s this type of involvement in the school and in the community that truly make her a Teacher of Excellence!

The Harris Teeter Together in Education Teachers of Excellence Award provides public recognition and financial rewards to 10 Teachers throughout the year who are furthering excellence in education. The teacher will receive $1,000 cash for themselves and $1,000 cash for the school. Winners were selected from nominees submitted by school Principals or PTA/PTO Organizations from Elementary, Middle and High Schools within the areas Harris Teeter services which includes over 200 stores in 8 states.

Congratulations Jennifer Dobbins for being named Harris Teeter’s Teacher of Excellence for May!
