Year-round schools get off to smooth start for 2011-12 year

Even with scorching temperatures hovering close to 100 degrees, students returned to year-round school Monday (July 25, 2011) ready to begin the 2011-2012 school year.

Walter Bickett Elementary School seemed to be fairly indicative of the first day at all the year-round schools. “It’s been a very smooth start,” said Walter Bickett Elementary principal Theresa Benson. “There have been lots of smiling faces, both students and teachers, who are all glad to come back to school.”

Benson said it’s easy to smile when you love what you do. “What a powerful profession we’re in – to be able to touch young lives every day,” she said. “And I have great people. We have worked very hard to make sure that we are ready to meet any challenge that may come.”
