Meet Our New Principal, Jessica Blanchard

Jessica Blanchard is confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcomed at Weddington, this phrase sums up my experiences since being appointed Principal of Weddington Elementary on June 20th. As a new member of the Weddington Wildcats, it is my sincere pleasure and honor to become a part of this great school community. Weddington enjoys a rich history of academic and cultural excellence that is the result of a collegial partnership between the school staff and parents who provide a diversity of experiences for the students.

During my first weeks at the school, I have indeed found this close working relationship and focus upon what is best for children to exist. I am truly honored to be appointed to this position and am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff to provide the best possible educational program for our students.

Before coming to Weddington, my professional career consisted of work within the several sites of the Union County Public Schools system. Most recently I served as assistant principal at Waxhaw Elementary School for two years. Prior to that, I was employed at Benton Heights Elementary for more than six years. While at Benton Heights I served in numerous roles such as: reading specialist, teacher, and administrator. I have teaching experience with a wide array of students from first grade through fourth grade and very much enjoyed my time in the class as interventionist and instructor. After spending four and a half years in the role of assistant principal I look forward to expanding my leadership as the principal of Weddington Elementary!

My vision for the coming year is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a school environment that meets the needs of each 21st century learner at Weddington Elementary. In order to foster continual improvement, the focus areas for our school during the 2011-2012 school year will include three skill areas: Communication, Academic, and Twenty-First Century Skills (CATS). Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to be innovative and globally competitive students. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society.

Through a close and collegial partnership with everyone associated with Weddington, I am confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.
