About Your New Principal
Mrs. Jennifer Deaton was raised in Stanly County, and she received a Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Elementary Education from UNCC. Her teaching career began at Sardis Elementary, and she transferred to Fairview Elementary as a fourth grade teacher when the new building opened in 2001. During this time, she attended Wingate University to obtain her Masterâ€™s Degree, became a National Board Certified Teacher, and was selected as Teacher of the Year.
In 2006, Mrs. Deaton was named Assistant Principal at Fairview Elementary. She furthered her education by returning to Wingate University for Add-on Licensure in School Administration. After serving for five years as an Assistant Principal, she was named as Principal at Union Elementary in July 2011.
Mrs. Deaton is very excited to serve the students, parents, teachers, and community. She believes in teamwork and open communication, and she looks forward to a great school year!
About Your New Assistant Principal
Mrs. Emily McGinnis is a native of Monroe. She began her career in the Union County Public School System as a teacher and literacy coach at East Elementary. She then worked as a reading teacher at Monroe High School. Her education includes a Bachelorâ€™s Degree and Masterâ€™s Degree from Wingate University. She has add-on licenses for Reading Specialist and Educational Leadership.
Mrs. McGinnis has served as Assistant Principal at Prospect Elementary, and will be splitting her time between both schools this year. She looks forward to meeting everyone at Union Elementary!
