We Came, We Saw, We Sodded
On Saturday, August 27th, our Antioch community came together to make the "Field of Dreams" a reality. Eighty-two volunteers worked a combined total of over 250 hours to sod the 26,000 square foot multi-purpose field. The "Dream Team" consisted of parents, students, Mrs. Dillon, Antioch staff, Weddington High FFA members, WHS National Honor Society members and several Piedmont High students government leaders and their advisors. PHS was participating in the United Way "Day of Giving." Since Hurricane Irene provided overcast skies and a nice breeze, the hardworking volunteers were able to lay the 52 pallets of sod (2,808 rolls) in less than 3 1/2 hours.
John Dippert with Aqua Duck Water Transport will water the sod daily, and in about five weeks our Gators will finally have grass on which to play! Students and teachers alike are eager for the sod to take root as the grass will dramatically cut down on recess injuries. This dream has taken us over a year to become a reality. We began fundraising for the grass during the past school year and now we have finished the course. A local television station even came to highlight the event on their news station. Thanks to all who have supported our fundraising events and to all the "Dream Team" members who came to sod the field. It was an amazing day of our community working together to improve and enhance our school. With hard work, even the biggest of dreams can come true!
