Did you just see the gingerbread man?

“Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the Gingerbread man.”  Mrs. Kamp’s kindergarten class started out their first day of kindergarten on September 1st with a hunt for the Gingerbread Man that jumped right out of our book. We searched all over the school, running as fast as we could to find that silly little Gingerbread Man. However he kept eluding us, but he left us clues along the way. As we searched we learned where the library, office, music room, art room and playground are located.

The final clue led us back to our classroom where there was a surprise waiting for us. A gingerbread cookie!

Then we all got to eat our gingerbread cookies. Mrs. Kamp asked all of the children to take only one bite and then we compared which part of the gingerbread cookie everyone ate first.    We found that most people ate the legs or the head. Check out below, who ate what….
As the rest of the week went on we read several books that had stories that were similar to The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett, including; The Gingerbread Cowboy by Janet Squires and Ginger Bear by Mini Grey. We talked about how the stories were similar and how they were different. We also discussed which story we liked best and why.
The last activity we completed was creating a gingerbread man or woman of our very own. Below are some examples of the gingerbread pictures we created.
Mrs. Kamp’s class is off to a great start and what a great batch ofkindergartners.
