First graders start the year off with a purpose.
The students in Mrs. Contrera’s first grade came in eager to start their second year of school. They were curious as to what first grade had in store for them. Within the first week of school they had adjusted to a new classroom and were already learning and discovering new things. During this week the students discussed what they would be learning this year. The students wanted to set personal goals on what they wanted to accomplish this year.
In reading, students goals were to read more, read chapter books, learn new strategies, and begin discussion groups to talk about their books. In writing students hope to become better spellers, write poetry and stretch out their stories to more then 3 pages. In math students hope to add bigger numbers, count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Other goals set by students were to become better citizens, tie shoes, make new friends and help others.
Together as a class we promised to help each other work together to accomplish these goals. This year is off to a great start! Stay tuned to see how we do in meeting our goals!
