Central Academy’s football team has made history.

The Cougars, who are in their fifth year of existence, won their fourth game of the season with a 12-7 road win over Central Cabarrus on Monday.

The win total is a new school record for victories in a single season.

Senior Mitch Blackburn ran 13 times for 83 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run with 7:28 left in the fourth quarter. The TD was set up by a 65-yard run by Chris Hailey earlier in the drive. Hailey finished with 21 carries for 141 yards.

Blackburn also added a 4-yard TD run in the first half.

Devonte Straing added 72 yards on five carries, while John Quintero rushed seven times for 45 yards.

CATA finished with a season-high 341 yards on the ground.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 2, but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Monday also marked the first time CATA (4-3, 2-2 Rocky River Conference) has won two straight games in the same year. The Cougars were coming off a 13-0 home win over West Stanly last Friday.

Central Academy plays at home against Piedmont on Friday.
