Maggie Vuncannon Crowned Miss Piedmont

Pictured is Maggie Vuncannon being crowned 2011 Miss Piedmont.

Maggie Vuncannon was crowned Miss Piedmont at the 52nd annual Miss Piedmont Pageant held on September 24. This year, the pageant theme was “Glam” and there were 25 contestants in the high school division. Also crowned were Miss Senior – Kristen Deese, Miss Junior – Caitlyn Herlihy, Miss Sophomore – Samantha Shillingburg, Miss Freshman – Hannah Rushing, Miss Congeniality – Caitlyn Herlihy, and Miss Photogenic – Hayleigh Gimber.

The 52nd Annual Miss Piedmont Pageants took place on September 24and 25, 2011. There were 25 contestants in the high school division and 46 contestants in the youth division.   This year, the pageant theme was “Glam” with the contestants opening the night with a dance to “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”. Dr. George Pinsak again sponsored the scholarships for both Miss Piedmont and Miss Senior and was the guest of honor at Saturday’s pageant.   Emily Briggs, 2010 graduate of Piedmont High, served as emcee for both events. Entertainment was provided by Jamie Nader, who sang “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, and dancers from Carolina Dance Company performed to “Glam”. The contestants were escorted on stage during the evening gown competition by Stephen Black, Ethan Briggs, David Clouse, Zach Cruz, Drew Gooch, and Mason Simpson.
According to Teresa Briggs, pageant director, “This year several changes were made to the pageant including having all of the contestants on stage for the crowning of Miss Piedmont. It was beautiful to see all of the contestants on stage in their gowns and I think it added a nice touch. In addition, the audience was given an inside look at the contestants during their closed rehearsals through a picture video. The biggest change this year for the contestants was answering on-stage questions on current topics/issues. This gave the judges an opportunity to see the contestants’ ability to think on their feet instead of answering a question about themselves.”
