MS Breakaway to the Beach

This participant had fun riding this interesting bike!

On Saturday, September 23rd, members of Central Academy’s National Honor Society worked with the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation of Charlotte to kick off the foundation’s annual Breakaway to the Beach.  This is where cyclists pedal their way from Monroe to Myrtle Beach to raise money and awareness for MS.

NHS members helped register cyclists on Friday.  Saturday morning our willing students arrived at the school at 5am to help set up for the cyclists’ send off!  From helping pack up luggage to cheering on the cyclists as they made their departure, NHS students were active volunteers for a very worthy cause.

Club sponsors Lori Janicki, Lisa Eaton and Tracy Gatica were also on hand to proudly watch our students tally up well over 300 combined service hours!!  This is CATA’s second year participating in this event.  Last year’s event raised over a million dollars for MS research.

We should all be pleased and thankful for a job well done by an enthusiastic group of volunteers.
