Learning Beyond the Classroom Walls
Third grade students went outside the classroom recently to learn about the human body. To help introduce their new unit of study in Science, they took a field trip to Discovery Place. They learned about the bones and muscles in their body.
Each student was able to see and touch real human bones, including the femur and the top of the skull (parietal). However, some had to turn away when they brought out a real human heart.
After some experiments with group leaders, everyone was given the chance to explore the museum. The activities included building forts using camouflage, identifying animals in a rain forest, creating a floor plan for a house, and performing investigations with chemicals.
There was so much to see and do, everyone wished there was a little more time.
