Parents partner with WHS to combat current issues
Weddington High School hosted a parent forum in which experts such as School Resource Officer Louie Rodriguez, Safe and Drug-free Schools Coordinator Lisa Callaham, and School Security Director Don Novak shared their tips for battling the negative teen influences that sometimes seem persistent and overwhelming. Officer Louie shared a plethora of information about media influences, and offered specific examples of how today’s popular culture can steer young people toward risky and sometimes dangerous behavior. Mrs. Callaham presented on the signs and symptoms of alcohol and other drug use among our teens, and identified some of the more subtle items that can indicate potential drug use. Mr. Novak concluded with a message about the importance of parents engaging their children about these topics. Parent and community participants provided for an interactive forum, and everyone left more knowledgeable and better armed to battle these problems than when they arrived. Thanks again to all involved!
