Author Michael Finklea Visits Union
On Wednesday, February 17, 2010 author Michael Finklea visited the students and staff of Union Elementary School. He spoke with students about the struggles he faced while writing his first book. His first book was rejected not once, not twice, not three times, but NINE times! He told students that after the fourth rejection he got so frustrated he gave up for a year. Then some friends encouraged him to try again. He was so glad that he did!
Not only did he talk with students about the importance of never giving up but how you can find a story in ANYTHING. He told them to close their eyes, shake their heads around, open their eyes, and then start writing a story about the first thing they saw. Michael made the students see that they could write a really interesting story even about the wall in the gym. All they had to do was be creative.
After speaking with students, Michael went back to the media center and gave students the opportunity to purchase books and have them personally signed. We had a great morning with Michael and want to thank him for taking the time to meet our students! Thank You Michael!!!!
