Piedmont High’s band wins “Best Marching Band†award
Piedmont High School’s marching band took top honors recently, being named the 2008 Best Marching Band for their performance the Union County Christmas parade.
The 84-member band wowed the crowd with “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch,” and was chosen by The Enquirer Journal and Union Smart Start, the parade sponsors, as the top band.
Superintendent Dr. Ed Davis, who came to the class to present Jody Lukac, the school’s band director, a commemorative plaque, told him and his students that he wasn’t surprised the band won because he had attended the parade and could vouch for their performance being the best.
Lukac said being chosen was an honor that students worked hard to achieve. “The band’s strength is its strong dedication,” he said. “The students want to perform well, and are not afraid to work hard.”
He added that he pushes them to do their best and work hard. But the students don’t seem to mind. “They know I care about them and are always there for them,” he said.
This isn’t the first time the band has been recognized. They also won the same award about three years ago. The plaque will be on display at the school with other band awards.
