New Salem's going Global!

Montaut, France

Second Graders Write to France!

In response to Union County Public Schools effort to become global, the second grade students of New Salem Elementary in Mrs. Schweiber’s and Mrs. Maulden’s classes have begun a pen pal exchange with students from France. These students are from Montaut, a small town in the south of France. Upon receiving the letters, the students were excited and could not wait to respond. We have learned that these students are not much different from us! Their letters consisted of a basic introduction of their name and where they live. Many of the letters were decorated with illustrations of their country’s flag and the colors of France. Some students printed their letters, others wrote in cursive. The second graders at New Salem responded to the letters by writing about their age, where they live, favorite subjects and things they like to do. Students were also involved in a research project where they researched the culture, geography, landmarks, and foods of France. We are looking forward to continuing our pen pal exchange and learning all we can about these students!

Student quotes:
