UCPS teacher assistant Sally Norris wins district title
Sally Norris, a teacher assistant at Marvin Elementary School, has been named the 2010-11 North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistance (NCATA) District 6 Teacher Assistant of the Year.
Norris was surprised with the good news during a recent staff meeting at her school, with the help of surprise visits from Shannon Donahue, the Union County NCATA President, and UCPS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Denise Patterson.
Donahue presented Norris with roses and a framed certificate after making the announcement of her taking the district title. Donahue praised Norris’ work ethic and dedication. Norris thanked her peers for their ongoing support and praised their personal and professional companionship.
“I give credit to the outstanding teachers and teacher assistants that I get to work with everyday,†Norris said. “They give me strength, encouragement and respect, teach me new strategies and hold me to high expectations. I am proud to call Marvin my home.â€
Patterson added her congratulations, noting the honor Norris brought to her school and the district. ¬Patterson wished Norris the best of luck at the next level of competition.
Norris will travel to Greensboro next week to compete for the NCATA Teacher Assistant of the Year state title.
Hired as a teacher assistant in 1999, Norris worked at Weddington Elementary until accepting a position at her current school, Marvin Elementary, where she has worked for eight years. She has been a member of NCATA for 11 years, five of which she had held office.
