Chris Mills wins School IPM Recognition Award

Chris Mills, the UCPS Integrated Pest Management (IPM) coordinator, has been recognized nationally, receiving a School IPM Recognition Award.
Mills was recognized for “his outstanding work in safeguarding children's health by facilitating the implementation of IPM” in Union County Public Schools.
According to the award, Mills “saved thousands of dollars for Union County Public Schools, when he cancelled the system’s contracts with pest management professionals and started an in-house IPM program.”
In addition to helping other North Carolina school systems start their IPM programs, Mills also educates teachers and administrators on basic IPM methods such as using monitoring devices and excluding pest from buildings.
Mills also received the Southern Region “Friend of IPM” award last year from the Southern Region Integrated Pest Management Center at North Carolina State University for his proactive methods of preventing pests from entering the school buildings and monitoring pest populations rather than waiting for infestations.
