Chorus Participates in MENC Festival

On March 30, the CHS Chorus participated in the Music Educators National Conference Festival at Northwest School of the Arts in Charlotte. The Mixed Chorus of eleven members performed “Sakura Matsuri”, which means “Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival,” and “ Michael Finnigin,” an Irish folk song featuring contrasting tempi and dynamics. The Concert Chorus of thirteen members performed “The Mozart Dies Irae,” from Mozart’s Requiem, sung in Latin, and “River Sleeps Beneath the Sky,” based on the poem "Sunset" by Paul Laurence Dunbar, son of former slaves and first black American writer to achieve an international reputation. The songs had to adhere to particular standards such as level of difficulty and degree of musical merit. They were performed before an audience and judge. Both choral groups received ratings of Excellent along with constructive comments. The CHS Chorus is directed is Ms. Janet Hall. We are very proud of our Chorus!
