US history comes to life at Sandy Ridge Elementary

Third-grade students at Sandy Ridge Elementary School take a moment to pose in their costumes after their presentation of “An American Dream.”

The Musical Theater group and the third-grade students at Sandy Ridge Elementary presented, "An American Dream," Nov. 10, 2009, to a packed house of enthusiastic parents and members of the community.
Under the direction of Sandy Ridge music teacher Melissa LoPresto, this musical celebration, written by well-known composers Roger Emerson and John Jacobson, moved chapter by chapter through the history of the United States of America, beginning with the discovery of America.
“It was a wonderful way to make history come alive,” LoPresto said.
The performance then progressed through the Revolutionary War, the Exploration of the West and the Civil War. Students portrayed important historical figures such as Christopher Columbus, Lewis and Clark, Sacajawea, Daniel Boone, the pilgrims, Puritans, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, Abe Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty and even Uncle Sam.
