UCPS bus drivers compete
The UCPS Transportation Department held its second annual Bus Driver Roadeo at Sun Valley High School March 14th, 2008, testing the skill of the school system’s best drivers.
The annual event is a friendly competition with at least four drivers from each UCPS cluster/district. Drivers compete in various obstacle courses to see who has the best time completing the course safely with the least mistakes.
Twenty-seven drivers participated in this year’s event, with top honors being taken by Wesley Williams, who drives a bus in the Forest Hills district.
Finishing in second place was Bill Farson from the Marvin Ridge district. Mary Jane Eudy (Forest Hills district) finished third, while Rick Wullschleger (Parkwood district) finished fourth.
These drivers now qualify to participate in the District Roadeo in Cabarrus County in April and possibly the State Roadeo in Raleigh in mid May. Last year UCPS qualified three drivers to the District Roadeo in Cabarrus County. Those same three drivers represented Union County at the North Carolina State Roadeo in May of 2007. In that competition, Farson placed 7th in the state competition.
To compete, drivers must have been employed one full year as a school bus driver for Union County Schools; have a clean driving record; have no chargeable accidents during the school year; and have no disciplinary action recorded for the school year.
