Weddington High School Career and Technical Education Students Achieve Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in PowerPoint 2010

The first group of Weddington High School Career and Technical Education students to earn the Mircrosoft Office Specialist certification in PowerPoint 2010, were honored at a breakfast on Friday, October 28, 2011.  Students were presented their certificates by teachers and administrators.  The state of North Carolina has partnered with technology giant Microsoft and developed a series of courses in which students have the opportunity to take MOS certification exams which are widely recognized by employers.  More than 100 students recently achieved certification and were celebrated at the breakfast.  Union County Public Schools is taking steps to ensure that students graduate from high school globally competitive for work and postsecondary education by offereing industry-recognized credentials such as that of Microsoft Office Specialist.

Credentialing makes a difference for North Carolina high school students by:

*Validating knowledge of skill attainment

*Increasing student confidence

*Often means higher earning potential

*Opening the door for networking in a career field, and

*Setting students apart from the competition
