Sun Valley FFA Members Attend National Convention
Members of the Sun Valley FFA Chapter recently attended the 84th National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Over 50,000 FFA members from across the United States attended the convention to participate in leadership workshops, Career Development Events, Proficiency Awards and the annual Career Show. Sun Valley FFA was recognized as a 2 star rated chapter by the National FFA during the third general session of the convention. The National Chapter Award program recognizes FFA chapters that successfully complete an annual Program of Activities (PoA), which includes a series of activities designed to help the chapter grow. The three main areas that the chapter is evaluated on are Student Development, Chapter Development, and Community Development.
FFA Members, Alumni, and Advisors participated in the National Alumni Basket contest during the convention. Sun Valley won the North Carolina Basket contest in June, which allowed the chapter to participate in the National Contest. The National FFA Alumni host the basket contest as part of the annual Alumni Auction to raise money for scholarships for students. The basket should represent the state and include products that are common or unique to the area. The criteria for judging is based on Best Showcase of FFA, Best Representation of the state, Most Creative, Most Attractive, Most Unusual and Best Representation of agriculture. There are three prizes awarded by the National Alumni Association: Best Overall, President’s Choice, and People’s Choice. The Sun Valley FFA Basket was awarded the President’s Choice and was awarded a Registration Fee to attend the National FFA Alumni Development Conference in Montana.
