Kyra Hoctor to Perform in Kaleidoscope on Ice

Kyra Hoctor, WUES 4th grader, practices her ice skating.

Kyra Hoctor, 4th grader at WUES, has been honored with being 1 of 5 girls selected to perform in the Kaleidoscope on Ice Show this Friday, November 18th at the Bojangles Coliseum.  The group of 5 girls, including Kyra, will be skating to the song "Almost Paradise" that will be sung live by Hunter Hayes.  Kaleidoscope on Ice is being presented by the Levine Cancer Institute and celebrates cancer survivors and their families.

Kyra has been skating for as long as she can remember.  She started skating lessons at age 2 and skates 5 days a week for up to 2 hours each day.  She is also in the gym with a personal trainer for 2 days during the week.  For a few weeks during the summer, she trains at the University of Delaware Ice Arenas.  Kyra is currently coached by 1992 Olympic Silver Medalist Paul Wylie, Nikki Janusz and Danielle Logano.  Recently, Kyra represented Carolinas Figure Skating Club at the South Atlantic Regional Championship and performed in the Opening Ceremonies of the US National Championships in January 2011.

Along with her dedication to skating, Kyra is dedicated to her school work.  She is consistently on the "A" Honor Roll and is in our AIG program.  She enjoys math and her favorite book is The Lemonade War.  On the ice, Kyra's favorite skating jump is a double Lutz / double toe loop combo and her favorite spin is a layback.  Her favorite skater is Rachel Flatt.

Kaleidoscope on Ice will be televised nationally on the Fox Network on Thanksgiving Day at 4:30 pm following the NFL game.

WUES is proud of you Kyra!
