EUMS Students Meet Author

Two groups of 8th graders at East Union were treated to a visit by author AJ Hartley on Thursday, November 17.  This even was part of The Big Read Grant, sponsored by the National Endowment of the Arts and partnered with the Union County Public Library.  During the month of October, students in Mrs. Cudmore's and Mrs. Horne's language arts classes did a book study on A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. In early November, the classes traveled to Central Academy of Technology & Arts, where students performed an interpretive dance of the book.

Hartley, a Shakespearean professor at UNCC, talked to the students about his life as an author then answered a variety of questions.  He presented the teachers with a signed copy of his newest book, Darwen Arkwright and the Peregrine Pact.
