SVHS Senior Commits to Become a Pittsburgh Panther

Randal Watts (Assistant Principal), Lisavette Soto (senior), Scott Stein (Athletic Director)

On November 9, 2011, Lisavette Soto signed with the University of Pittsburgh for a full-ride gymnastics scholarship. The award includes tuition, room/board, books, and meals totaling over $150,000 for four years. Lisa is the third gymnast from North Carolina to sign with Pitt Gymnastics.

Lisa is a five-year level 10 at Southeastern Gymnastics. In 2011 and 2010, Lisa was a J.O. National Qualifier and placed seventh on bars in 2010. At the 2011 Region 8 meet, she placed third in the all-around, second on vault, third on beam and fourth on bars. In 2010, she earned the bars titles at both the state and regional meet as well as finishing second in the all-around. In 2006 and 2007, Lisa was the Puerto Rico National all-around champion.

Pitt Gymnastics is pleased to be getting this commitment from Lisa. According to Debbie Yohman, Pitt Gymnastics’ head coach, "Lisa is a solid all-arounder and great competitor. Her skill list starts with two big vaults and she has lots of difficulty on the other three events also. She loves to compete and has an excellent work ethic.”

Sun Valley is so excited for Lisa and for what this opportunity may bring for her future. “I know that we all share the pride of this accomplishment with Lisavette and her family,” stated Jim Williams, a SVHS counselor. “She has worked hard and long for this and is very deserving. I can only say that we are all behind her and wish the best for her in this endeavor.”
