Piedmont High Transition to Adulthood (TTA) seniors Wayne Hoxit and Shawn Baucom received an Honorable Mention in North Carolina School Board Association’s High School Video Contest. Over 50 schools participated in the first-ever NCSBA High School Video Contest. Each participating high school was required to send one 30 second video per submission.

Hoxit and Baucom were chosen from more than 50 applicants for the award and are among 11 winners chosen. Both students enjoy working with technology. The students were very interested when they heard about the contest, What’s Super about Public Schools, from Piedmont High teacher Mariana Oprea. Film Production teacher Angie Medlin volunteered to facilitate the process by providing the needed tools and support in many related steps.

Hoxit said, “I am very happy. I am thankful to Mrs. Medlin and Mrs. Oprea who helped us succeed. Public education is super and the teachers are great.”

Baucom said, “I was glad to work in a team with Wayne. “ He also said that it feels good to have people who believe you can succeed.

Hoxit and Baucom were surprised by a visitation from Assistant Principal Dr. Ann Walters, Medlin , Oprea and students, who presented the winners with balloons and the framed certificate in recognition of their hard work.

Team work and belief in our student’s success is not without results. EC students can compete with regular peers and can be successful.
