Werner Fornos Speaks to UCPS High School Students on Global Population Issues

Mr. Werner Fornos, one of the foremost authorities on global population issues lectures to UCPS High School students.

UCPS High School students from throughout the district recently had the great pleasure of hearing from Mr. Werner Fornos, one of the foremost authorities on global population issues. Mr. Fornos is the 2003 United Nations Population Award winner, and was the Population Institute President from 1982 until late 2005.

On December 1, 2011, Mr. Fornos presented a 30 minute lecture on issues related to the drastic population increase the world has been experiencing since the early 19th century. He also highlighted specific solutions to the problem including increased education for girls, increased employment opportunities for women, and a reduction infant mortality rates.

After the lecture, students were allowed to ask questions. This presentation helped students understand a critical piece to globalization. A special thanks goes out to the Charlotte World Affairs council for offering our students this opportunity.
