All A-Buzz about the Spelling Bee!

Our Spelling Bee Winners! Congratulations

The Prospect school wide Spelling Bee took place on Friday, December 2nd. Our winner from last year, Andrew Parker, won again this year! Austin Laney, 5th grader from Ms. Jacobsen’s class, is our runner-up. Andrew will represent Prospect at the county wide Spelling Bee, to be held on January 18 at CATA. First, students had to compete in classroom spelling bees and the top winners from each classroom in grades 3-5 participated in the school wide Spelling Bee.

Mrs. Hartis, our Media Coordinator, was the pronouncer. Students were told that they could ask for the word to be repeated, for the definition, and for the word to be used in a sentence. Mrs. Bankston, principal, and Mrs. Carter, school bookkeeper, were the judges. The judges assisted by making sure the students heard the word correctly, listened for the spelling of the word and made sure the rules were upheld throughout the Bee.

The students made it through a few rounds without any elimination…but then the words got harder! Our spellers did great and toughed it out, making it through 12 rounds before our winner stood alone. Congratulations to all of our Spelling Bee participants – You did a great job!
