The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

First and Second Prize winners of the Gingerbread House Contest for 2011

Students were asked to decorate an ordinary cardboard box with non food items.  Decorations ranged from cotton balls, felt and glitter to tin foil, tooth picks, and beads.  It is always amazing to see what the students come up with each year.  This year, the popular twist to the gingerbread house was to decorate not only the outside of the box but to also decorate the inside with furniture and minifigures.

In addition to the top three winners, we also had 10 students who were awarded prizes for the best use of construction paper, the best use of legos, the house with the most heart, the house that includes all that the holidays are, the most creative candy canes, the most realistic looking gingerbread house, and the most beads we have ever seen!

The top 3 winners won a real gingerbread house, a book, a candy cane, a trophy, a medal, and stickers.  The 10 honorable mention winners won a book, a candy cane, a trophy, a medal, and stickers.  Each participant is going home with a candy cane as well.  The Rocky River PTA donated the prizes for this fun competition.

The gingerbread houses will be on display in the media center until Friday, December 16th.  If you are visiting the school, we ask that you stop into the Media Center to see the gingerbread houses and marvel at the students' creativity!
