Allemond and Wade are Headed to Broadway!

Senior Lilly Allemond, left, and junior Taylor Anne Wade, right, have been selected to go to New York in March as part of The Broadway Experience.

Two CHS students have been selected to participate in The Broadway Experience March 25-27, 2012. Cuthbertson High School was one of twenty Charlotte-area schools permitted to nominate high school juniors or seniors for this opportunity. Taylor Anne Wade, a junior, and Lilly Allemond, a senior, submitted an essay to the Blumenthal about what a trip to Broadway would mean to them. On January 5, 2012, Ralph Beck and Michelle Youngs, who operate and manage the education programs at the Blumenthal, chose the two young ladies as finalists and came to the school to interview them.

“It was very, very, very nerve-wracking!” said Taylor Anne Wade. “For me and Lilly this is our dream - our dream was in their hands! When I found out I was going I started to cry and scream!”

Lilly Allemond said, “I actually lost my voice the night before. I had to whisper everything! I was afraid they couldn’t hear what I was saying. I thought to myself, 'I have to do this today and I can’t talk!' ”

The Broadway Experience sends twelve students who have never been to a Broadway show each year on an all-expense paid trip to New York complete with tours and Broadway shows. Part of the requirement for candidates was that they had never been to Broadway or to New York.

“It’s special,” continued Taylor Ann. “I’ve never been to New York and I have wanted to go since I was born! Seeing a Broadway show is so exciting – I can see what I want to do when I grow up – plus – there’s Times Square!”

“I applied, but I did not think I’d get it because I knew how many students applied," said Lilly. “It’s a big deal. It’s awesome to get to go. Theatre is what I have wanted to do since my first show in middle school.”

CHS is very proud of Taylor Anne and Lilly. Taylor Anne summed it up, “We’re just so excited!”
