Festival Around the World

Dr. Bulla learns more about Indian culture from one of his students.

Vibrant colors, savory smells, and wonderful sounds filled MRMS on Thursday, April 22 during their “Festival Around the World” celebration. Teachers, students, parents and staff set up displays around the school celebrating their culture and heritage.

Mr. Salminen, an 8th grade LA teacher and proud Irishman, filled his table with an authentic kilt, a video presentation about Ireland, a flag and other Irish items. The Krishna, Iyer and Kashyap families represented India by wearing traditional clothing, giving out samples of Indian cookies and painting girl’s hands with beautiful henna ink designs.  And everyone stopped at the Greece table to try some of the delicious Greek delicacies such as baklava, spanakopita, and tiropita provided by the Rossano, Mavroidis and Liapis families. In addition, special performances by Hara School of Greek Dance and the Walsh Kelley School of Irish Dance entertained audiences while parents mingled and children created arts and crafts. These are only a few of the highlights that made a fantastic evening so make sure you plan to attend the annual festival next year.
