Second Grade Coat Drive

Recently, second graders at Stallings Elementary School read the book titled Lily and the Paper Man written by Rebecca Upjohn. This book inspired students to want to help out others less fortunate and in need of warm coats and gloves. The second graders partnered with the Southbrook Church in Monroe to organize a coat drive to help the needy families in Union County. The students collected over 160 winter items that will help people in our community stay warm. There was even a little math thrown in when the students graphed the types of items donated. One very important lesson learned by the children was that when we work together, we can help others in a big way.
