Waxhaw Elementary Science Fair
April 15th, 2010
Waxhaw Elementary School Science Fair and Technology Night was a huge success. The PTA sponsors this event with much help from the faculty and team of judges. This year was record breaking with 117 Science Fair Projects being entered into the first round. After school, many teachers with the help of Amanda Sant, Elementary Science Curriculum Coordinator, judged all the projects narrowing it down to the final 26 which would then be judged in the final round. That evening, while our team of judges was interviewing student scientists, the faculty was hosting Technology meetings in their classrooms. Parents were very impressed with all the new technology being used in their children’s curriculum.
After much deliberation the team of judges, which included: Dr. Jay Jones, Joni Nash Case, Rebecca Kiker, Jack Bruschi, Ryan Dougherty, Kristen Galway, and Mr. Al Stoner (Astrophysicist and Banking Analyst); reached a decision on the winners. The winners of the 2010 Waxhaw Elementary 4th Annual Science Fair are: 1st Place Russell Leggett; 2nd Place Katherine Borra; 3rd Place Nathaniel Anderson; 4th Place Honorable Mention Madeline Wulff.
All participants in the Science Fair received medals from Principal Cheryl Lawrence, while the winners received trophies. As the fairs organizer, Mrs. Jennifer Borra said,†All of the students are winnersâ€. If the future of scientific discovery is in the hands of our youth then these students are ready to lead the way.
