Students release messages they have written to Jonathan.
On Friday, April 23, 2010 Union lost one of its wonderful students. First grade student, Jonathan Beegle, was involved in an accident that took his life. On Monday, April 26, 2010, as students and teachers returned to school, their hearts were heavy with the loss of their friend and student. Jonathan’s first grade class wanted to celebrate Jonathan’s life in a very special way on that day. They started the day talking about Jonathan and how special he was to their class and our school. Then students were given the opportunity to write personal messages to Jonathan expressing their feelings of grief but also celebrating the time he was with us. After writing their messages, they tied them to balloons and the class went outside on the playground and released the balloons into the sky. Later in the day students made bead bracelets with Jonathan’s name on them, or with a word that would remind them of Jonathan. Each student in the class, as well as teachers who worked with Jonathan, now have a reminder of this sweet boy who made such a positive impact on their lives.
