President Roosevelt Stops By Marvin?????

In honor of Presidents Day, former President Theodore Roosevelt stopped by Marvin Elementary to share a few words of wisdom with students, staff, friends, and family members. Making the trip with him were many famous leaders, entertainers, scientists, athletes, and pioneers of the past…courtesy of the third grade. As part of the culmination of the Biography unit of study in reading and writing, the students dressed their part at the annual Wax Museum.

It all began with each student choosing a person of interest. After researching and writing a paragraph about their famous person, each child created a timeline of five to eight significant events in their life. When that was completed, they designed a poster for display and a speech for presentation.

The event saw the king of pop (Michael Jackson) share stories with the king of rock (Elvis Presley).

It brought together former leaders like George Washington and Ronald Reagan. Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison shared ideas.

It hosted peace makers like Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman, as well as royalty like Queen Victoria and Princess Diana. Milton Hershey was there to hand out his famous candy bars to athletes like Babe Ruth.

In such a small world, Walt Disney was on hand to entertain children of all ages, as leading ladies such as Juliette Gordon Low were eager to provide a story of how “Thin Mints” became famous. Somehow, even Amelia Earhart found her way to Marvin.

It was certainly a day for the ages.
