FFA Receives $2500 Grant

Piedmont’s Future Farmers of America received a $2500 grant as part of the Monsanto Fund’s Farmers Grow Communities Program. The FFA was the chosen organization in Union County to receive the money on behalf of local farmer Walker Carpenter.

Farmers make an impact in communities across America and farmers who win the grants find a way to give back by donating to deserving organizations who can reap the benefits of the financial contribution. Mr. Carpenter is an alumni of Piedmont High School and was a member of the FFA as a student. In addition, his son attended Piedmont and his grandson is a current student.

The $2500 is a well-deserved financial award for the FFA and they have several plans for its use. The Agricultural Program maintains a barn near the school and a portion of the money will be used to build a shelter. According to FFA Advisor Tim Blair, “The shelter is a needed addition to the barn as it will help facilitate the instruction of our students.” Likewise, monies will be used to fertilize and seed the pasture next to the barn to better serve the ‘residents’ of the barn. Finally, the horticulture class will be receiving a storage building for their greenhouse.

Both the FFA and Piedmont High School express thanks to Mr. Carpenter for this donation that will improve the facilities for the Agriculture Program.
