Two UCPS schools get STAR awards
Monroe Middle and Wingate Elementary schools have been recognized for innovative activities that advanced student learning.
The two schools were recognized Monday, April 7, 2008, by the Southwest Education Alliance (SWEA) during an awards program called STAR (Schools That Attain Results) held at the Embassy Suites in Concord. STAR was created this year to acknowledge the success of students and school programs in the region.
SWEA is an organization made up of 12 school districts across southwest North Carolina. Superintendents nominate one or two schools from their districts (two for districts with more than 20,000 students) which are making outstanding and innovative efforts in reaching all students.
Monroe Middle was recognized for several ambitious instructional approaches to meet the diverse needs of the school, while Wingate Elementary was recognized for its large improvement in the number of students on grade level.
