Niyati Patel Wins Gold Medal at NC-MSEN Pre-College Program Math Competition
My name is Nikki Patel and I am a freshman at Weddington High School. I decided to enroll at the UNCC Math and Science Pre-College Program. I elected the Geometry syllabus out of many other options. I found this to be very helpful and it gave me a deeper understanding of geometry. My typical class consisted of 9th and 10th graders.
The goal of the NC-MSEN Pre-College Program is to broaden the pool of students pursuing mathematics and science based majors and careers. The UNC Charlotte NC-MSEN Pre-College Program actively recruits and prepares students of average to above average ability in grades 6-12 from six school systems in the UNC Charlotte area. The Saturday Academy Program consists of about eighteen days during the academic year. During each of the Saturday Academy sessions the students engage in various hands-on activities in math, science, communications, and career awareness. Students also participate on field trips and in a host of educational opportunities off and on the campus of UNC Charlotte.
Toward the end of the year the top 6 students were chosen from every category to represent UNC Charlotte in a state wide competition. All of the Universities in North Carolina participate in this competition. They decide each year where the competition is held and this year it was at UNC Chapel Hill. My category had to take the written test and I had scored the highest with two other students and won a gold medal. Overall UNC Charlotte came home with the most medals won.
