Study of French Brings a Lesson in Diplomacy
Five Marvin Ridge High School seniors and their two teachers were honored to be among the attendees at the World Affairs Council of Charlotte Luncheon on Thursday, March 1, hosting special guest HE Francois Delattre, Ambassador of France to the United States. Pictured outside the banquet are: Megan Mitchell, Ms. Kristen Mouritsen, Erin Robertson, Margot Lebaron, Erich Kessel, Carter Harris, and Ms. Dawn Jones.
As a part of its Ambassador Series, the WACC invited representatives from local French companies, universities, and high schools to enjoy lunch and to hear a presentation by Mr. Delattre. During his remarks, the Ambassador noted that it was his first anniversary in the position and that he is the youngest person ever to serve in the role. Easily discussing topics and even answering questions on business, economics, and diplomacy, Mr. Delattre’s visit was a highlight for the Marvin Ridge upper level French class members. The five students were selected to attend by their teachers for excellence in language study. The only group to represent Union County Public Schools, all are grateful to Dr. David Clark, Deputy Superintendent for Human Resources, for providing them with the opportunity to meet a respected global figure. A picture of the group with the Ambassador will be available soon.
