Kicking off Prom Season
Weddington’s Junior Class Student Government put on the annual Prom Fashion Show, which helps to raise money for prom. One hundred and fifty prom tickets were sold at the discounted price of $50 each. Mr. Schwartz and Mrs. Youngman hosted the show and described the attire modeled by the senior guys and gals. The girls modeled dresses from David’s Bridal, Dar-Lynn’s Bridal, Simpson’s, and CB’s Limited while all of the tuxedos were provided by Men’s Warehouse. This prom season, several new styles have arisen. These include neon, tutu skirts, beaded bodices, and dresses that are short in the front and long in the back.
During breaks between the Vogue-worthy modeling, students in the audience were selected at random to compete for free prom tickets. They battled in Minute to Win It-style challenges that included transporting ping-pong balls using duct tape attached to their foreheads, swinging a yo-yo using their hips to knock down a soda can, and shaking tic tacs out of their boxes using their mouths. In the final round, Nathan Borrelli and Connor Kennedy faced off. To win the ultimate prize of two free prom tickets, the two had to “get ready for prom†by quickly putting on their skirts and blouses, strutting in their high heels, and applying lipstick. Connor Kennedy finished the race first and won two tickets. Nathan Borrelli’s consolation prize was a single free prom ticket, which still saved him $50.
