What's Spinning in Mrs. Carlton's Class
Students in Mrs. Carlton's class got a first hand look at a spinning wheel and sheep's wool. Mrs. Opgenorth, a Sandy Ridge parent spins wool as a hobby and came in to share her experiences about her spinning wheel.
The students watched as she demonstrated how to use a spinning wheel to make yarn. They were able to see examples of flax, cotton, and alpaca wool. She showed the students pictures of sheep and the wool that came from their coat. They learned how many miles of wool it takes to make 1 blanket (5.32 miles). The children were very excited to ask her questions about sheep and her spinning wheel.
