FCCLA Hosts “Baby Shower†to support Turning Point
The FCCLA hosted a “Baby Shower†to support Turning Point. The Warrior community showed strong support of this very worthy cause. Approximately 25 students attended the shower and collected over 60 items including diapers, cups, baby clothes, books, toys, etc. Ms. Dee Agosto-Phillips, Volunteer Coordinator for Turning Point, attended the shower and shared general information about the services provided by the shelter.
Turning Point is the only domestic violence shelter in Union County. Last year they served close to 700 women and their dependent children. The shelter strives to equip victims of domestic violence with the ability, skills and strength to overcome their situation and start a new life. Turning Point also works to increase awareness and educate the community about the dangers and effects of domestic violence.
Some of the services provided by the shelter include a Crisis Hotline, counseling, Living Skills Counseling legal services and a children’s program. Turning Point depends on community volunteers and funding to help provide these services.
Turning Point also sponsors Second Chance Boutique, a high end thrift store that provides quality new and second hand clothing, home décor, and more to clients of Turning Point and the community. The boutique is supported by generous donations form individuals, families, community organizations, churches and businesses.
Additional information about Turning Point, services provided, wish list, and volunteer information can be found on the website. If you would like to make a donation to the shelter, you can also contact Ms. Leggett at Sandra.firstname.lastname@example.org.
