12 Terrific Teens
Maddie Cutrone, a Junior, is a pianist and singer who recently was one of 180 singers chosen by audition from 11 states for the prestigious American Choral Directors Association Southern Division Honor Choir. "This is a huge honor," says Deborah Lutz, chorale director at Marvin Ridge High School. Cutrone, who primarily sings soprano, began playing piano at age 5 and now teaches private piano lessons. She says she loves the "click moments" when her young students get excited because they know how to play (a song like) "Under the Sea." In 2010, Cutrone filled in for Lutz as an accompanist at the Music in the Parks festival in Atlanta and was named outstanding accompanist for junior high choirs at the event. She has performed in the Mars Hill Choral Festival for two years and has sung with the Charlotte-based Nova Voce women's choir for two seasons. "If I have free time, I usually spend it singing or playing piano," says Cutrone.
She maintains a 4.5 GPA and helps facilitate the honors choral class at Marvin Ridge High School when Lutz is absent. She plans to pursue music after high school.
