Porter Ridge Middle Student Competes at State Geography Bee
Every year students from all over the United States compete in the National Geographic Geography Bee. Students in grades 4-8 compete at the local, state and national level. The hope is that the competition will encourage students to become more interested in geography as they prepare for competition.
William Scott, a 6th grader at Porter Ridge Middle, represented our school on March 30 at the State National Geographic Geography Bee. Thousands of students across NC and the U.S. participate in classroom and school bees. The top 100 from each state, selected from all school winners based on an EOG style test, proceed onto the State Level competition. The 1st and 2nd place winner from each state will attend the National GeoBee May 22-24 in Washington, DC. William answered 5 out of 8 questions correctly. This is his 3rd consecutive year making it to the state level. Way to go William!
