2nd Grade Celebrates Nutrition Month
The month of March was designated as Nutrition Month, and the students in Ms. Nichols' 2nd Grade Class celebrated with a month long project. The project was designed around the Healthful Living North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The children created a food pyramid or plate. They also had fun searching their own kitchen for healthy foods for a scavenger hunt. Each child provided a kid friendly healthy snack recipe. The recipes are being compiled by Ms. Nichols for a class cookbook. Another component of the project was creating a board game designed to teach others nutrition facts. The students have had a wonderful time teaching and playing each other’s games.
Perhaps the most exciting and rewarding experience for the children was to prepare a healthy meal for their own family to enjoy. The kids were very enthusiastic about their selections and documented the process from creating a menu, shopping for fresh ingredients, and actually cooking the meal with photos. The parents deserve a big pat on the back for supporting this project and allowing their child to help prepare a family meal. A fun time and good memories were made for all!
